Now for the weirdest part of our trip to Chirije…
As mentioned in earlier posts in this Chirije series, we had no idea that there was a UFO airport (Ovnipuerto in Spanish) located close to San Clemente, Ecuador at the Chirije site until after we had determined to go there to see the artifacts.
It was only after we had seen the website associated with Chirije and learned that a French UFO-ologist (I guess that is a word) had reportedly seen UFOs hovering over a clearing at the Chirije site that we learned of the significance of the site to those who search for UFOs.
So, by the time we went to visit we were not surprised to see the ovnipuerto and we took some pictures of the raised round platform reserved for alien aircraft landings.
I thought that it was unique and sort of curious, but beyond that, did not pay too much attention to the “airport” until I asked our tour guide if he had ever seen any UFOs at Chirije. He quickly and unabashedly responded, “Si, Claro!” (Yes, Clearly!). He told me that he had seen the lights from UFOs hovering over the ovnipuerto and flying over Chirije many times and as recently as the last week! He told us that he has often been set to take pictures of the crafts, but when he raises his camera to take the pictures, the craft darts away quickly out to sea.
He also said that when he and the other workers were clearing the land to make the ovnipuerto directly under the site the UFOs generally hover, they discovered scores of little ceramic figures lined up in a circle around the site. This indicated to him that the ancient inhabitants of Chirije had their own reception area for UFOs at that same site. The figurines discovered around the ovnipuerto and elsewhere at Chirije were of oddly proportioned people with long arms one of which was wrapped around its’ back clutching its’ opposite waist like this one whose right arm is broken, but the fingers can be seen on its left hip.
Another odd feature of these figurines is that they have only four fingers and four toes on each hand and foot and the fingers and toes appear to be webbed.
Bob and Lori had seen a show on the Discovery channel or something that had similar evidence of webbed-footed figures located somewhere in an archeological dig that the documentary they were watching alleged proved that a civilization of people had come from the ocean or perhaps even still lived in the oceans of the world. But our guide was quite convinced that these figures represented alien visitors who had landed at Chirije.
I do not know…but, I would hate to have our culture and the possibility that we were visited by strange alien visitors evaluated by some future archeologists who, in the year 3050, locates a trove of, “Smurf” dolls or, worse yet, the, “Troll” dolls that were popular when I was in grade school! So, I asked our guide for additional evidence of the alien landings. I would have preferred clear pictures and a disabled UFO, but the mystery would not be as intriguing if everything was clearly evident.
Our guide showed us the following figures and models of UFOs located at Chirije as further evidence of UFO landings:
Whatever you believe, you should visit the site and meet with the workers there who clearly believe and regularly wait with other guests around the ovnipuerto to greet the visitors they fully expect to land at Chirije some day soon!

Well! Since the natives evidence little fear and mostly acceptance and anticipation…there must be some evidence that the “Visitors” indicated they came in Peace????? Close Encounters of the Best Kind???? Who knows, they may return some Ecuadorian “Manana”! Keep the Faith. ( Since the rainy season will soon be upon us, keep a lookout for webbed digits!).Interesting, as usual. Thanks
.Love, J.

[…] Living it up in Ecuador – Here’s where things start to get weird in Chirije. The ancients built an airport for unidentified flying objects to land. They lined up figurines to represent their alien visitors. John and Mary are skeptical but the workers believe. […]
