This morning I was in the back exercise room and Mary was getting ready to do some sewing when we heard our Compadre and neighbor Ramon calling to us from the front door. We called, “Un momento” and came around to the front of the house. Ramon was not by the front door, but when we both got close he popped out from behind the wall holding up two large langostas.
The two lobsters were still flapping their large tails and Ramon was laughing. He simply dropped in to give us something that would cost thrity dollars or more in the United States. I did not have the camera out, but after Ramon left (with some cheeze cake and apple crunch Mary had prepared yesterday) Mary took this picture of me holding the lobsters.
It is hard to see exactly how large the lobster in my right hand is as he would not stay still for a photo.
But, I can tell you that this lobster alone weighed close to one pound.
Less than an hour later the two looked like this.
One note – The larger lobster in the top in this picture did not turn the normal orange color of cooked lobster. When I opened it up to remove the meat, I noticed that this lobster was getting ready to shed his outer shell. There was a softer almost complete shell beneath the old outer shell.
After I cleaned them we put the meat into the freezer where it will be available for pasta dishes or salads later.
Sometimes we wonder if people realize what is is like living in a place where your neighbors drop in with such gifts and a happy smile! Just another reason we always say…
Life is good in Ecuador!
life is good indeed – and I am not a lobster meat fan – but this is fun – to have neighbors drop by like this – gift from God . 🙂

I bet you would become a lover of lobster and the jumbo shrimp they call langostinos (and all seafood for that matter) after you’ve lived here long enough. All seafood tastes much better when it is fresh and you can not get fresher seafood than that that the fishermen hand to you directly from the net!
As for neighbors – This place is filled with such amazing friendly people. We are so blessed!

Isn’t that the truth! We could simply walk the beach each morning when the fishermen are bringing in there nets and get free fish and crabs everyday. We realize that the fishermen need to make a living, so we prefer to buy from the distributors here. The added hidden blessing of living amongst such loving giving people makes life so sweet.
