Whew! So much has been going on here in preparation for Christmas and we have a lot of catching up to do to bring you all up to date on our news.
But… In the meantime – amidst all of the candy making, party planning, guests, and shopping we also had a call from a friend who found two small kittens on the roadway. These little ones were obviously separated from their mother too soon and our friend was busy trying to nurse them back to health. She had gotten them to the point where they would lap up milk and use a kitty litter box and now she needed some help.
We had been on the lookout for a new kitten to replace Jacinto’s kitten who had passed away and Mary was looking for something small, warm and cuddly to sit with at night, so we told our friend that we would take both of the kittens. Last Saturday morning these two beauties were delivered to our care and keeping. Bonnie:
Clyde is a male who closely resembles Jacinto’s former kitten, so we will keep him for a few weeks until he is old enough to eat solid food and then give him to Jacinto. We plan to get them both down to the vet as soon as they are old enough to get vaccinations so they do not fall to the infections that afflict so many local pets. Bonnie (which means beautiful in Scottish) will be our little cuddle-bug.
We took them both out on the patio yesterday for some exercise and exploring time.
Bonnie checked out every little nook and cranny and got pretty playful chasing small bugs and attacking leaves.
This will give you an idea of their small size!
Bonnie is checking out one of Mary’s flip flop shoes. Later I got this shot of Bonnie showing off her feline instincts stalking and attacking a leaf!
Clyde did plenty of exploring himself, but preferred to chase after a small piece of rope Mary was dangling across the patio.
We suspect these kittens are only three or four weeks old, but the hunting instinct is clearly in place already as Clyde demonstrated remarkable dexterity subduing the elusive rope.
Still, after a good meal and a half hour of romping about, the little ones both started heading for the door.
Mary brought them upstairs to where we have a bed prepared. By the time I came upstairs in few minutes later the siblings were cuddled up together dreaming about their recent discoveries.
After leaving our pets behind in the United States, it has been too long since we were actual pet owners. We look forward to many years with Bonnie inside and Clyde romping across the parking lot here where…
Life is good in Ecuador!
The images did not come through bu t just reading their names gave me a grand smile!
Will probably be in town tomorrow pm and will enjoy looking at the images then.
(Now let’s see if this comment reaches you- I’ve sent several recently and the Claro signal wasn’t strong enough to send ithem. 😦 )

Beautiful story John. They are simply adorable. Love the names. Wishing you many years of love with Bonnie… and the visiting Clyde. Does Jacinto know you have a new baby for him? Such a nice thing to do.

We told Jacinto that we had heard of a kitten and would get it for him when it was old enough to leave its’ mother, but we have not shown Clyde to Jacinto yet because he would probably want to take him right away and Clyde needs a bit of careful tending before he can handle solid food better. Jacinto will love him!

Good call to keep one for yourselves. A cat makes a house feel like a home.

I know you always loved cats. We concur with you that cats, especially kittens, make the house much more of a home! Merry Christmas, Sis!

How adorable! Love their names. What ever happened to the dog that had puppies, I think about a year ago? You found her in a hole in the cliff? You make good parents for these cute little fur balls.

Thanks! We are going to have lots of fun with Bonnie. She is growing and developing very quickly.
The stray dog that had puppies – Named Good Girl – nursed and cared for her eleven puppies and we managed to get good homes for all of the puppies. But, shortly after the puppies were all distributed it seemed like Good Girl must have eaten something poisonous and she died within one week. Jacinto and I buried her near our home.
That is one of the reasons we are going to raise Bonnie as an inside cat and make sure that she does not dumpster dive or hang around with infected sick animals.

They really are… all of the above! We just love them and have already had so much fun interacting with them both. I just spent an hour lying on the carpet in our front room letting the little rascals climb all over me! I feel like a new daddy.
