There are a wide range of colors used to create a mola, primarily scarlet, crimson, orange and black for the topmost layer. Other bright colored material is used to form the additional layers but they are always kept in careful balance. I love the colorful molas but certainly do not want to spend months hand-stitching a creation, painting is a lot easier on your fingers than a embroidery needle.
