As John said in his art blog we’ve had a busy week , my to-do list just seemed to get longer every day. I did take time to work on a few paintings but didn’t completely finish any of them. An artistic friend once mentioned in her blog that there are times when our paintings or sketches are never quite done. There’s always a bit more to add, an area to lighten / darken or a line to correct. Quite often my hubby will look at a painting and remark that it looks like it’s finished. ” Hmm, not yet” is often my reply. He knows now it’s not done until I’ve signed it, but that doesn’t mean it will never see a brush again. This is my very first painting that I completed about 14 months ago : Punk Rock Birds.
If you would have seen my initial sketch you would have realized that these birds did not behave while I was painting them, so I kept putting them in time out. Finally I gave in and made their dreams come true, punk rockers. 🙂 My plan was to paint two additional smaller paintings to adjoin this one. So I painted the background, vines and flowers and sketched in the hummingbirds. Then they sat and waited until I convinced myself that I could actually paint semi-realistic birds instead of punkers. Finally I picked up the brush and put paint to canvas. They’re not 100% as I visualized but I’m content, for now, with my efforts.
There’s still a little bit of work I want to do before I sign my MMAC to the bottom and they join their buddies on the wall.
Thank you Zeebra for keeping us on track to take time out for art. Check out Lisa’s blog for some fun info and inspiration.
