Our friends Jimmy and Susan treated us to a nice two-day get-away to Canoa to celebrate their anniversary. We stayed at our favorite hostel in Canoa – Amalur Hostel. We will post more about that wonderful trip, but today I wanted to introduce you to a non-paying guest who was also at the hostel while we were visiting.
You can see the visitor in this picture taken from the second floor walkway looking into the courtyard.
What’s that you say – you can not see any guests? Look closer…
If you look closely in the center of the tree near the very top you will see our green traveling companion.
Mary and I spotted this iguana from almost eye-level as we came down from the hammock area on the roof of the restaurant area of the hostel. But, even knowing it was up there, it was very hard to spot from the ground! Here is Mary saying, “I know you are up there!”
The well camouflaged reptile is almost invisible from below even in a sparsely leafed area of the tree.
I walked around the walkways on both sides of the courtyard to get these pictures of the mid-sized iguana (perhaps two feet long).
We had a great visit at Amalur in Canoa made only more intriguing by seeing our green friend.
Life is good in Ecuador.
