Thursday is here again and it is time to try, try again to accept Lisa’s challenge to take some time out for art and try to sketch a picture. See Lisa’s site for more information on the weekly challenge: Timeout for Art: Drawing Comes First!
Last week I did a fairly simple sketch of a parrot with only minimal shading. This week I tried using another sketch book that suggested that one needed to do more background shading to make lighter pictures stand out.
I clearly need to work on my background shading technique! It is much harder for me than the outline sketching and takes much more time. In true workman style (ie. “Hand me a roller!”) I started out too dark with the flat side of the pencil and almost obscured my poor little kitten.
But, with practice and a little patience that would have been hard to find ten or fifteen years ago, I started to get a better feel for the shading process.
Anyway – Here goes with my second effort at pencil sketching – My little curious kitten:
I am learning as I go and actually enjoy the time I spend in, “Timeout!”
Life with a pencil in my hand is good in Ecuador.
