My dear sister Lori, who lives in northern Ohio, is an animal lover. Through out the years she has done amazing actions trying to protect hundreds of God’s creations. Even spiders in her home find themselves gently carried outside. Animals, ( squirrels, chipmunks, cats, dogs) injured by the road will find themselves on the way to the vet. You may remember Lori from previous blogs and her adventures whale watching while visiting us here in Ecuador.
Lori recently sent me this email telling me the story of what occurred at her workplace. Hopefully it will bring a smile to your face as it did to mine.
“So, a few weeks ago, someone told me that there were a bunch of goslings out front in our “lake” which is actually a gathering of water from drain pipes and rain water. I went out to look. I saw a mother and father goose with 3 medium size babies swimming down the “lake”. I then saw a single mother goose with 6 smaller babies under and near her on the hillside. As I was watching, 3 of the small babies ran down the hill and jumped into the water and started swimming after the other family of geese.”
” They got closer and the father (my assumption) started to peck at the little ones hard to the point where they were being submerged under the water. Of course I freaked out and was yelling at him but he ignored me. Even though they were being treated poorly, the babies insisted on following this family and the father continued to peck at them. The cries of pain coming from these babies were too much for me to bear. I went over to where they were (they had now come out of the water and were going up the hill and crossing the driveway) and I was trying to figure out a way to get these babies away from this horrible monster. In the meantime, the birth mother was trying to call for them but they must have been confused. The whole group continued walking into the woods on the other side of the driveway and I got real close to one once but the father came at me thinking I guess I was trying to harm his children. They started to make a turn towards Engle Road (4 lanes and much busier), so I decided to back off and go back inside hoping that they would change their mind about crossing Engle Road. I decided then that I wouldn’t go home that direction (which is my normal route) when I left for work that day (in about 2 hours). When I left work, I went home that way (maybe I forgot or maybe it was divine intervention).”
” As I was pulling out of the driveway onto Engle, I looked over at the mother of 6 who now was just sitting on 3 of her children and I could have sworn she made a noise asking me to find her other 3 missing children.”
” I pulled out and had to stop at the red light on Engle which is located right there at the driveway. As I was sitting there, who do I see walking down the sidewalk my direction but Huey, Dewey and Louie.”
” I immediately put my flashers on and put my car in park. Just as I was doing that, Huey was stepping out onto the roadway (there was a little ramp there and he was just following it) and of course his 2 brothers started to follow. I jumped out of the car and went over to where he was and he turned the other direction (towards the sidewalk and woods). I bent down as he was trying to get the heck away from me as fast as possible but I am much larger and faster compared to him and was able to easily scoop him up. As soon as his brothers saw him in my hands, they stopped in their tracks and I was able to scoop them up too.”
” I then went down the sidewalk, across the driveway and to where the mother was sitting on the hillside. All I remember was watching their feet move quickly under them in mid-air as I was walking (and how adorably fluffy they were). She got up as I got closer and the other 3 siblings came out from under her as I bent down and released my 3 to the group. They were all so very happy to see each other. I then turned back towards my car and noticed a police car pulling up behind my vehicle. As I got closer, he was getting out and I just kept apologizing. He said, “is that yours?” (meaning my car) and I said yes and I think I may have rambled on a little about what was going on but I think he had seen me walking down the sidewalk with Huey, Dewey and Louie and he told me twice that he had no problem at all. I got in my car and proceeded to drive home with a really, really big smile on my face. “
Life is good in Ecuador (especially with emails from the States)!
