On Building Rails and Love
As one rides the rails in air-conditioned cars across the continent
It’s easy to forget the men who with dedicated commitment
Took on the job to build those rails no matter what it meant
And kept on until they fulfilled their goal overcoming each impediment.
Plotting the course through hills and plains took extraordinary vision
Laying the rails required brawn and a watchmaker’s precision
And pushing on after set backs that spurred lesser men’s derision
Took lots of engineering skills combined with purposeful decision.
In my youth I would watch older couples walking hand in hand
In spite of all their worldly woes their love seemed to firmly stand
I thought how good it would be to find the perfect woman made for me
Who would make my life a heaven on earth where I could live care-free.
After many years I learned that people don’t just simply find success
Relationships require that both people go through some grueling tests
Overcoming set backs and persevering each time their love is tried
Is what gives a couple the assurances that their love can’t be denied.
When I see older couples walk in what seems like blissful peace
It helps me to remember what it took to bring them to that place
And then rededicate myself to the quest with firm commitment
As that is the only way that I can hope to find the same contentment.
Hoping your upcoming Valentine’s Day is filled with dedicated commitment!
Love is good in Ecuador!
